Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed a few popular people on social media posting that you shouldn’t worry about eating healthy, exercising, sleeping well, etc because one day you will die anyway. Whilst I am sure they are joking, I am also sure that there are plenty of people out there who actually have this attitude towards healthy living.
On a personal note, I exercise 4-5 times a week, I eat healthy, although at weekends I do treat myself and I try to get 7 hours of sleep each night. Yes, I will die one day just like someone who doesn’t do all these things. However, I want my life to be full of quality and as I get older I want to still be doing the things that I can do today.
In my opinion you should want to be as healthy as you can for the time that you have left.
I feel there are two options for people:
Do you want to go beyond your limit? Walk for days? Travel the world? Do you want to feel good in your body? To feel like you are fully able to do everything, run without feeling tired, grab heavy stuff, help others? Without feeling aches and pains or fatiguing quickly.
Do you want to stay laying in your bed, eating without enjoying the outside, watching a tv or computer screen? Do you want to have heart or breathing problems and suffer with seriously bad health? Do you want to stay alone instead of enjoying the company of others outside?
I know which option I’d prefer!
To be healthy doesn’t mean cutting out every pleasure. It means having pleasures consciously and reasonably, it means going out, it means moving, running, gyming, swimming, walking, going to yoga or whatever you prefer a few times per week every week. It means eating good things for your body. It means to take care of yourself, it means giving your body the strength it deserves.
